You're on an on-ramp, merging onto the highway. Who has the right of way?
The rule
When you get on a highway, the drivers already on it have the right of way. Speed up to match their speed and fit into a gap.
When you merge, the traffic already on the highway goes first. Get up to the speed of traffic and merge into a gap big enough for your car.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 95. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
