Practice question · Signals and lights

By law, how far ahead of a turn must your signal start?

The rule

The law requires you to signal every turn and lane change at least 100 feet ahead, using your turn lights or hand signals.

The law says to signal a turn or a lane change at least 100 feet before you make it, with turn lights or hand signals.

From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 36. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
