Practice question · Speed and conditions

In New York, can you get a ticket for speed while driving under the posted limit?

The rule

You must obey the speed limit, but bad conditions can make the safe speed much lower. A police officer can ticket you for a speed that is too fast for conditions, even below the limit.

Obey the limit, but the safe speed can be much lower. On a slippery or foggy road, an officer can give you a ticket if your speed is unreasonable for conditions, even under the limit.

From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 47. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
