What is this sign warning you about?
The rule
A Lane Ends warning sign means one lane is ending ahead and its traffic must merge. When traffic is backed up, SC teaches the zipper merge: use both lanes to the merge point and take turns.
A Lane Ends sign means one lane is about to end, so traffic in that lane must merge into the other lane. Plan your move early.
From the SCDMV Driver's License Manual, page 6-5. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
