What is this sign warning you about?

The rule

A Lane Reduction sign warns that the right lane is ending. Its drivers merge left when there is space; drivers on the left let them in smoothly.

A Lane Reduction sign means the right lane is about to end. If you are in it, signal and merge left when space opens up.

From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 2, page 8. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
