Where to stop: the stop line
A free practice question for the Virginia permit test, with the answer explained.

At a STOP sign with a stop line, where should you stop?
The rule
Stop at the stop line. With no stop line, stop before the crosswalk; with neither, stop before you enter the intersection.
At a STOP sign, the stop line shows where to stop. Stop behind it, not in the crosswalk or the intersection.
From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 2, page 5. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
