At a STOP sign with a stop line, where should you stop?
The rule
At a STOP sign, your stopping point is the stop line or the crosswalk. With neither, stop as close to the intersection as you can while still seeing both ways, without pulling into the cross traffic.
At a STOP sign with a stop line, stop behind that line, not in the crosswalk or the intersection.
From the SCDMV Driver's License Manual, page 6-10. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
