What does this round yellow sign warn you about?
The rule
A round yellow sign with an X and RR comes before a railroad crossing: slow, watch and listen for trains, and be ready to stop. A white X-shaped Railroad Crossing sign marks the crossing itself.
A round yellow-and-black sign means a railroad crossing is coming up. Slow down, look and listen, and be ready to stop.
From the SCDMV Driver's License Manual, page 6-6. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
