Can you be charged with DUI for driving after taking a legal prescription drug?

The rule

You can be charged with DUI for driving while impaired by alcohol, controlled substances, prescription drugs or over-the-counter medicines. Drugged driving carries the same penalties as drunk driving.

Florida's DUI law covers alcohol, controlled substances, prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines. Driving impaired by any of them carries the same penalties.

From the Official Florida Driver License Handbook, page 25. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
