No sign is posted. What is the most reasonable speed in a thickly settled or business district?

The rule

Unless posted otherwise, 30 mph is the most that's reasonable in a thickly settled or business district. Some communities set a 25 mph thickly settled limit and post it at their entrances.

Thickly settled and business districts have a 30 mph limit unless a sign shows something else.

From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 79. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
