Practice question · Lanes and turns

When you make a U-turn, which lane should you end up in?

The rule

To make a U-turn, turn on your left signal, stop and yield to approaching traffic. When it's clear, turn into the outside (right-hand) lane going the other way. U-turns on a highway are never allowed.

Signal left, stop and yield to approaching traffic. When the way is clear, turn into the outside (right-hand) lane going the opposite direction.

From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 3, page 18. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
