When may you turn left on a red light?
The rule
At a red light you may turn left from a one-way street onto another one-way street after a complete stop, yielding to pedestrians and traffic, unless a No Turn on Red sign or a red left arrow is shown.
You may turn left on red only from a one-way street onto another one-way street, if no sign forbids it. Stop first and yield to anyone with a green light.
From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 2, page 5. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
