What do double solid white lines between two lanes mean?
The rule
Double solid white lines separate lanes going the same way where you may not change lanes. They can also separate an HOV lane from the general lanes.
Double solid white lines are a barrier. Never cross them to change lanes; wait until you reach a single broken white line.
From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 4, page 24. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
