A free practice question for the Maryland permit test, with the answer explained.

The traffic light ahead is dark, like this. What should you do?
The rule
If a traffic signal isn't working, stop at the stop line (or before the crosswalk or intersection), let vehicles and people already in the intersection go, and continue only when it is safe.
Stop at the stop line when a signal is out. Let anyone already in the intersection go, then continue when it is safe.
From the Maryland Driver's Manual, Section 4, page 17. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the MVA have the final word.
