Traffic light not working
A free practice question for the Massachusetts permit test, with the answer explained.

The traffic light ahead is dark, like this. What should you do?
The rule
If a traffic signal is dark and not working, go on as though there were a STOP sign in every direction. If it is flashing red or yellow, follow the flashing-light rules.
If a traffic light is out, stop as if there were STOP signs in every direction. Then go carefully when it is safe.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 82. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
