How close to a fire hydrant may you park?
The rule
Don't park, stop or stand within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. The only exception: a licensed driver stays in the car, ready to move it in an emergency.
Keep at least 15 feet between your car and a fire hydrant. Crosswalks at intersections need 20 feet, and traffic lights, STOP signs and YIELD signs need 30.
From the New York State Driver's Manual, page 43. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
