When may you drive in a marked bike lane?
The rule
Stay out of a bike lane except when you must use it to turn left or right; never drive in one to pass, and never park in one. Before turning, check your mirrors and yield to bicyclists in the lane.
Use a bike lane only when you need it to turn left or right. Never drive in one to pass, and never park in one.
From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 2, page 12. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
