Your light turns green, but a pedestrian is still crossing in front of you. Who has the right of way?
The rule
When your light turns green, you must still yield to pedestrians already in the crosswalk. Always yield to pedestrians in the roadway and in a crosswalk in your path.
A green light doesn't take away a pedestrian's right of way. Yield to people already in the crosswalk, then go when they're safely clear.
From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 99. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
