You're passing a truck. When may you pull back into the lane in front of it?

The rule

After passing a truck, bus or RV, pull in front only when you can see its entire front in your rearview mirror, then keep up your speed. Don't stay in its blind spot.

Before pulling in front of a truck you've passed, look for its entire front in your rearview mirror. Then keep your speed.

From the Virginia Driver's Manual, section 3, page 21. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the DMV have the final word.
