Within how many feet of a car you are following must you dim your high beams?

The rule

Use low beams whenever you are within 200 feet of a vehicle ahead of you going your way.

Once you are within 200 feet of a vehicle ahead of you going your way, switch to low beams.

From the Massachusetts Driver's Manual, page 46. This question is our own wording of that rule. The handbook and the RMV have the final word.
